Therapeutic Approach

I believe counseling should go beyond the standard.  Such traditional approaches may work for some but often dismiss the holistic needs of an individual. I am a strong believer in the importance of connection beyond oneself and with the world at large. For this reason, I offer therapies in a multitude of settings.  I conduct sessions in an office setting or within the community. To meet the needs and busy schedules of people, I also offer an internet-based platform. If you envision beyond counseling that follows the standard constraints then this is the right fit for you.

Those who are interested in individual, couples, groups, workshops through Envision Beyond Counseling will:

  • Discover healthier approaches to cope with life’s difficulties

  • Find a further sense of fulfillment, purpose, and balance in your life

  • Feel heard and understood while obtaining honest and open feedback

  • Gain insight into the responses of their body and mind to external stimuli through the integration of mind-body therapy

  • Acquire a deeper connection to self and the world around you

  • Learn from a new perspective and develop skills to become your own change agent

  • Achieve inner strength to tackle life’s challenges in a constructive manner

About Us

I believe that one size does not fit all and the best environments are those that allow for flexibility and creativity.  Since graduating from New York University's MSW program, I have worked in a plethora of settings with diverse clients including a clinic, community-based family therapy, an alternative education program, and as a mental health consultant for schools. Through these experiences, I have found what works and what does not.

I am grounded and trained in several methodologies including Cognitive-behavioral, Psychodynamic, and Narrative Therapy, as well as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.

Two of the most effective approaches are client-therapist relationship building and connection.  This includes connection to oneself, others, and life’s joys. I have personally found the importance of attunement and the integration of the mind and body.  My approach blends empathy, humor, intuitiveness, and passion.

I look forward to assisting those in the Tristate New York region including Suffolk and Nassau counties.

How do I know this is the right fit for me?

Therapy is a relationship based process through which an alliance is built between client and therapist. In order for optimal progression to take place a trusting and comfortable relationship where open communication takes place. I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation session to evaluate whether my therapeutic services are a good fit. If it is not I will assist you in finding alternatives.

Why Action/Movement therapy?

The idea came to me when I worked for an alternative youth educational and occupational program.  When participants were experiencing issues there was very little private space available for a true clinical conversation to take place.  The most private place was in public. Whenever participants had to talk we ended up going on what ended up being coined as a “walkie-talkie.”  As I continued this approach I realized the benefits aside from the logistical ones due to the constraints of spacing.

I found this was a great way to remove participants from any stimulus within the building that was causing strong emotions.  This also became a regular practice for myself to help decompress and be mindful. Being in nature and public stimulates thought and dialogue more than This also did not remove the reality of the world and all that it brings.  This is why all forms of weather and contexts are used.

Life does not work the same way as just a conversation in the office. From experience, I find that a lot can be taken from latent content and beneficial dialogue that goes beyond what comes from conventional psychotherapy.  Not to mention the Endorphins that are produced from the movement which contributes to better mood, sleep, energy, and resiliency.

To get started you can schedule a free consultation call where during this time preferences including activities and ideal locations will be discussed.

How do you schedule sessions and what will the first session look like?

You are welcomed to first discuss this during the free consultation call.  You can also contact me through email at EnvisionBeyondCounseling@gmail.com or by phone at 845-641-9924.

I ask that clients fill out the basic intake form and reviews and familiarize yourself with the intake and consent forms prior to the first session. This can be found on the website under forms.

For the first session, we will review the forms and get to better know one another. The expectation is that rapport and familiarity will take several sessions to build. Weekly sessions are recommended to help with the process.

How long will I be in therapy for?

How the therapeutic process looks depends on each individual and their preferences. Some may prefer to have short-term to address a specific issue while others may need more support and time to help navigate life’s difficulties on a long term time frame.

At the beginning phase of treatment, your hopes and expectations will be discussed to better assess the course. Just like life, changes will occur and so do goals. Therefore, periodic reassessments will take place to ensure that you are getting what you want and need out of the therapeutic process.

Do you accept insurance?

I currently accept insurance from Optum, United Behavioral Health,  and Beacon.  Please call to verify your insurance prior to the first session.

You may also be eligible for out-of-network.  This means that you can be reimbursed a percentage back depending on your plan. Check with your insurance provider to see if your benefits cover this.

Questions to ask include:

  • Does a prior authorization form have to be completed?

  • Is a referral required for psychotherapy through a medical doctor?

  • Is there a limit on out-of-pocket expenses?

  • What percentage of outpatient psychotherapy covered?

  • How many sessions are covered annually?

  • Is there an annual deductible?  If so what is it?

  • When does your policy calendar year start?

  • Are codes for psychotherapy covered? (90791, 90834, 90837)
